Tosokchon (samgyetang)
I finally visited the famous samgyetang restaurant Tosokchon in Seochon, Seoul.
When I first heard about Tosokchon, I couldn't understand why people were willing to stand in long lines outside. I used to think that if there was a wait, I simply wouldn't be able to dine there.
I had visited here once before with my family, but we had to leave because of the long line. There were quite a few people again that day, but the queue wasn't as long as we had expected, so we decided to wait.
After our walk up Inwang Mountain, we were in need of a healthy meal, and Tosokchon was the perfect choice.
Menu
It seemed like there had been a price increase, as a notice was attached to the menu board. We ordered three Tosokchon Samgyetang, one Seafood Pajeon, and one Makgeolli (Korean rich wine).
The menu is well-organized with images, which is very helpful, especially for foreigners.
Tosokchon samgyetang 19,000 won
Ginseng liquor is served alongside the meal. While it's great to enjoy the liquor with the samgyetang, if you don't drink alcohol, it's also excellent to mix it into the samgyetang and enjoy it together.
The milky soup is rich and creamy, with a generous amount of nuts adding extra flavor and texture. And the best part of the Samgyetang is the sticky rice inside. To me, it’s even more delicious than the chicken itself.
Haemul Pajeon (Korean seafood pancake) 16,000 won
The appearance didn't seem very appetizing at first, but the backside was cooked to a perfect crisp, which enhanced the flavor. I ended up really enjoying it.
After a hike, there's nothing better than enjoying Haemul Pajeon with samgyetang and makgeolli. This pairing is something we just can't resist.
If you're in the area, don't miss it, this is a samgyetang restaurant you absolutely should try.
