These days, it’s delightful to dine outside on a terrace with a gentle breeze.

You-jin Sikdang (Ikseon, Seoul), located near Tapgol Park in City center, is well-known for its Pyeongyang naengmyeon and crispy Nokdu-jijim. Setting up the blue plastic tables outside the restaurant and enjoying delicious food is a fantastic experience.

It’s just a one-minute walk from Jongno 3-ga Station’s Exit 5.

The food is delicious, and the atmosphere is pleasant, which is why I returned to You-jin Sikdang two weeks in a row.

Even in this neighborhood, which is home to many historic and traditional restaurants, You-jin Sikdang’s Pyeongyang naengmyeon has become so popular that it has been featured on numerous television shows.

One of the great things about You-jin Sikdang is that you can take your Pyeongyang naengmyeon outside and enjoy it by Tapgol Park. When we arrived, all the outdoor tables were already occupied, but the weather was so lovely that I asked the owner to set up another table for us.

Along with a few street performers in front of the restaurant, you can also see numerous elderly people playing chess or go.

 

Menu

You must try the Nokdu-jijim and Pyeongyang naengmyeon made with homemade noodles. Additionally, there are other fascinating dishes like Seolleongtang and Suyuk that are perfect for drinkers.

Since 1968, You-jin Sikdang has a rich history of over 50 years.

While Pyeongyang naengmyeon and thick crispy Nokdu-jijim are its most famous dishes, other popular options like Suyuk, Seolleongtang, and Gukbab also draw many customers.

We ordered Pyeongyang naengmyeon, Nokdu-jijim, and Suyuk. With the wonderful weather, an ice-cold beer was an absolute must.

 

Suyuk (boiled pork)  9,000 won

Add a little bit of the tiny pickled shrimp served on the side. The chewy texture pairs perfectly with soju. However, since we're not great at drinking, we opted for beer instead of soju.

 

Nokdu-jijim (Mungbean pancake) 9,000 won

What's amazing is that the outside has a crispy texture, almost like a batter-coated snack, while the inside remains incredibly soft and moist. It tastes absolutely fantastic when paired with soy sauce onions.

Thanks to this unbelievably delicious Nokdujijim, I ended up visiting You-jin Sikdang for two weeks in a row.

 

​Pyeongyang naengmyeon  10,000 won

Pyeongyang naengmyeon made with 100% pure buckwheat noodles in a savory beef broth, accompanied by Dongchimi, is a real treat. For an extra kick, adding a bit of vinegar and mustard to suit your taste makes it even better.

In the past, I didn’t quite understand the appeal of pairing alcohol with Pyeongyang naengmyeon, but now that I’m older, I’ve come to appreciate the combination.

 

Seolleongtang  6,000 won

There's plenty of meat in it, and it's only 6,000 won. I can't believe I can order a bowl of Seolleongtang and a bottle of soju for just 10,000 won.

The Seolleongtang comes with rice and is packed with so much meat. It's hard to believe the price is only 6,000 won.

 

Suyuk (beef)  15,000 won

Dip it into the mustard paste that comes with it.

The lean meat was tender and soft, while the tendon had a nice chew to it. The pork Suyuk was delicious, but the beef version was pretty impressive too. Best of all, how can beef be this affordable?"

When you dine outside at You-jin Sikdang, you can enjoy the lively scene of Tapgol Park, everything from small drunken brawls to elderly people singing and dancing on the street. It's another fun aspect of dining at You-jin Sikdang.

Enjoying Pyeongyang naengmyeon at an outdoor plastic table is truly a special experience. We highly recommend You-jin Sikdang, where you can savor a variety of delicious dishes at reasonable prices, all backed by 50 years of honest tradition.
