MINJUKIM & PAKUA
During my recent trip to Bukchon, Seoul, I made a stop at Hayan (White) Hanok, the stunning shared showroom for MINJUKIM and PAKUA.
Nestled in this serene part of the city, the showroom blends traditional hanok architecture with contemporary fashion, offering a truly unique experience.
MINJUKIM
Launched in 2015, MINJUKIM is the brainchild of internationally acclaimed designer Minju Kim. Her work draws inspiration from fairytale-like imagination, combining youthful playfulness with avant-garde haute couture.
Minju Kim’s accolades include: Winning the H&M Design Award, Reaching the LVMH Prize semifinals, and being crowned a winner on Netflix’s Next in Fashion
PAKUA
In contrast, PAKUA, Minju Kim’s newest brand, launched in April, caters to a broader audience with its energetic and vibrant women’s wear. It focuses on accessible fashion, using bold colors, playful graphics, and creative logos.
PAKUA lowers the price point compared to MINJUKIM, making it a great option for those who want a touch of Minju Kim’s creativity in their wardrobe without breaking the bank.
Hayan Hanok (showroom)
Located along the path from Anguk Station to Jeongdok Library, Hayan Hanok is surprisingly tranquil despite being near bustling Bukchon. The name "Hayan," meaning "white," reflects the space’s design, a blank canvas where fashion and creativity take center stage.
The hanok's architecture was carefully designed to harmonize with the brands. Minju Kim envisioned a space where the showroom would seamlessly integrate with its surroundings, mirroring the elegance and creativity of her designs.
The moment you step inside, you’re greeted by a lovely cat, an unexpected and charming touch. The showroom occupies the ground level, while the upper level houses private offices, and the basement serves as a workroom.
The entrance is dedicated to Pakua, showcasing its youthful, athletic energy. The pieces reflect Minju Kim’s avant-garde spirit in a way that feels accessible and modern.
MINJUKIM Handkerchief 38,000 won
From one wall to the other, the showroom displays a stunning array of MINJUKIM items, bursting with the label’s signature bold designs and vibrant colors.
If you’re planning a trip to Bukchon or Anguk, stopping by Hayan Hanok should definitely be on your list. Whether you’re a fan of Minju Kim’s work or simply curious about contemporary Korean fashion, this serene and thoughtfully designed space offers a unique experience.
Both MINJUKIM and PAKUA embody creativity in different ways, and the hanok itself adds a layer of cultural charm.
